    Build your brand by building ENERGY STAR Homes. Understand the value of building energy efficient, comfortable, healthy, and durable homes, … and more importantly, how to sell them. Explain the benefits to your customers, while leveraging the resources and incentives that are available through the EPA, GEO, and Xcel Energy.

    Recent changes in the mortgage industry have created an unprecedented opportunity for widespread adoption of energy efficiency by average homeowners.  Learn what these changes are, why they are important, and what you can do to take advantage of the opportunity and share in the success.

    Speakers:
    Todd Gamboa, President of Building Trust LLC, is considered an industry expert and champion in the field of “Green” and energy efficient home building.  As a builder, consultant, and public speaker, he has trained thousands of builders, contractors, designers, architects, and REALTORS® across the country. He has worked with industry organizations including Built Green Colorado, Greenprint Denver, Governors Energy Office, Energy Efficiency Businesses Coalition, ENERGY STAR, DOE - Building America program, CAHB, NAHB, USGBC – LEED, International Code Council, Colorado Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Environments for Living, and Xcel Energy.

    Stephen Ponce-Pore is the Energy Programs Manager for the Bank of Colorado.  He developed the Colorado ENERGY STAR Mortgage - a partnership with the Governor's Energy Office to provide reduced mortgage rates to homeowners that renovate their homes for energy efficiency or to purchase a new ENERGY STAR Home.  He is actively involved in the development of additional loan programs for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

    Current green building standards feature indoor health recommendations, but is this content stringent enough to promote the optimal health and well-being of occupants?  Many environmental health professionals are concerned that some green building strategies may lead to similar unhealthy indoor conditions as those that resulted from the 1970s Energy Crisis.  It has become apparent that focusing on ventilation, mold mitigation and low-emitting materials is not enough.  Shelley will discuss green building strategies that are health-promoting as well as those that may be detrimental to occupant health.  The discussion will highlight the need for collaboration among green building, environmental health, building science and construction professionals throughout the lifecycle of buildings.  An interdisciplinary approach that crosses multiple disciplines is the best way to ensure regenerative conditions for both the planet and its occupants.

    Speaker(s):
    Shelley Kawamura, LEED AP,  Director of Outreach & Education for the Institute for the Built Environment (IBE) at Colorado State University
    Shelley is an occupant health and well-being consultant for both commercial and residential projects.  Shelley has a master’s degree in construction management with a sustainable building emphasis.  As the subject of her thesis, Shelley evaluated the occupant health content of several national green building standards and rating systems and prepared recommendations for building strategies that promote and protect the health of occupants.  The dual goal of environmental preservation and human health within green building programs is the focus of Shelley’s work and she is particularly interested in areas where best practice recommendations for these two objectives are misaligned.  Shelley has presented at many local and national conferences and workshops and brings over twenty years of design expertise and project management to her career focus.
